Zambia Muchinga Mountain Arabica
Zambia is a land-locked country, and very little of its coffee crop is exported. Which is a shame because Zambia coffee has at times topped the cupping charts around the world. Overlooked by the world for coffee production until the 1950s, the country has tried to make up for lost time. There have been several initiatives from worldwide organizations - coffee oriented and finance oriented - to establish a gourmet coffee industry in the country. This had helped to make the coffee farmers of Zambia extraordinarily knowledgeable.
The stock in Zambia tends to come from Tanzania and Kenya and has been supplemented with Catimor and other resistant varieties. The result is a unique profile and balance that creates what we like to call "tension in the cup", such as we cultivate in our espresso recipes. When this is achieved, the coffee taste profile immediately strikes the palate as rich, diverse, and in dynamic balance. It's just exciting!
Zambia coffee seldom makes it through the difficult processes of export, so we don't often get a chance to enjoy it. Len cupped this small lot and his eyes went "bazinga" and he had to quickly buy some more because this one was really striking and unusual, and that's what we love.
Everyone! Off the bus and into the local coffee shop where our lovely barista will rock our world with a nice Americano! (Most of the world uses espresso machines to brew coffee, and if you just sidle on up to the bar and ask for a coffee, you will get a double espresso shot with about 4 ounces of added water to bring it to regular strength.) Mmmm.
1 pound (16 ounce) bags, Full City Roast, please choose whole bean or ground. You can also decide to nibble on this one first by buying the intro 4-ounce bag of this coffee here.
