JAZ Improv Coffee : Muckle Ado!

Whiskey and coffee? Surprisingly, you'll find whiskey extract in various major coffee company's blends around the globe (including Trung Nguyen!). Whiskey enhances the flavor of lighter-roast coffee and helps bring out fruity tones and a buttery warmth. We first experienced "whiskey coffee" when we brought back 2 bags of Brady's Barrel-Aged Coffee from Ragland Road in Orlando. The green beans are actually aged and rolled gently in old whiskey barrels to impart that oakey whiskey flavor. Everybody loved it!

Warning: Drinking this coffee might make you want to don a kilt and attack some invading Romans! Muckle Ado features Brazil Cerrado coffee at two of our favorite roast points: 425° and 468°, which are roughly a Light/City and what we call Deep Forest. This delightfully buttery blend is enhanced by the essence of oak-cured Scotch whiskey.

The result of this unique combination brings some surprises... people say they taste blueberry notes and vanilla... it's a cup you will savor as the flavor ripens in stages after brewing.

There is an old Scottish expression, "Muckle Ado", which has many meanings, ranging from "a big deal" to "causing a bruhaha", and also can refer to the bringing together of a critical mass of talent (music), beer and traditional foods, accompanied by muckle (much) dancing and shenanigans. This coffee blend is indeed Muckle Ado in a cup!

Haggis, anyone? To go with our fine whiskey coffee? No? Hmmmm...

8 oz., please choose whole bean or drip grind.

More Information

The re-introduction of our "Scottish" coffee could not be complete without this excerpt from Robert Burns, Scottish poet and songwriter of the 18th Century:

Ode to a Haggis (excerpt)

...Let them that o'er his French ragout,
Or hotchpotch fit only for a sow,
Or fricassee that'll make you spew,
And with no wonder;
Look down with sneering scornful view,
On such a dinner.

Poor devil, see him eat his trash,
As feckless as a withered rush,
His spindly legs and good whip-lash,
His little feet
Through floods or over fields to dash,
O how unfit.

But, mark the rustic, haggis-fed;
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Grasp in his ample hands a flail
He'll make it whistle,
Stout legs and arms that never fail,
Proud as the thistle.

You powers that make mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill of fare.
Old Scotland wants no stinking ware,
That slops in dishes;
But if you grant her grateful prayer,
Give her a haggis!
