India Araku Valley Natural Robusta

Back in stock! These Araku Valley beans are super healthy, robust beans bursting with rich coffee flavor. This is a "back-pallet" delight, with low acidity, high body, and smooth, lingering finish.

Robusta in India is grown in rich soil at altitudes higher than typical in the rest of the world, and lovingly cultivated to specialty coffee cupping standards. The parent plants were likely imported into India over a century ago from Sumatra, and they have the same chocolatey profile as beans brought into Indochina (including Vietnam) by French Jesuits circa 1890-1920. We are offering this coffee as a stand-alone single origin of exceptionally quality, and also in several of our custom blends.

1  pound bags, please choose ground or whole bean, Medium or popular Harlequin Roast (Dark base, Light accent).

The Medium roast is our own "Chocolate Roast" variation in which we extend the roasting time a little longer after the First Crack, which develops the natural chocolatey tones of this coffee.

Please note: We are only selling in 1-lb bags on this coffee now due to a shortage of 8 ounce bags. The price is the same per pound as it was with the 8 ounce bag :-)

The Araku Valley of India

India's coffee tradition goes back 400 years or more, when a variety called Kent was first established in the Southern Hills. Arabicas predominated until the blight of 1870, when growers needed to hybridize to resistant varieties. The resultant strains had genes from Liberica and other unique, resistant species.
